Cow’s milk consists of two main types of protein: Casein and whey. Casein makes up about 80% of the protein structure. There are several different types of casein, A1 and A2 beta-casein being the two most common. The body digests these two differently, and A1 has been claimed to be more difficult to digest, leading to potentially more digestive discomfort. Most milks contain both types of casein. A2 milk is great because, like human breast milk or goat milk, it lacks A1 beta-casein protein and instead has mostly the A2 protein, which comes from special selected cows that exclusively produce the A2 beta-casein protein.
