BABY FORMULA

  • The recipe also hones in on the nutritional benefits of plain cow's milk and thus resembles plain organic milk more closely than earlier stages of HiPP baby formula, which focuses on mimicking breast milk as closely as possible.

    More Needs, More Vitamins

By the time your little one reaches 3 years old, they will have roughly doubled in size since birth. Not only that, their cognitive abilities and motor skills will have advanced significantly as well.

In order to support all that rapid growth and development they undergo in their first couple of years, certain nutrients become particularly critical during toddlerhood, and that's where HiPP Dutch Stage 4 and HiPP German 2+ come into play!

HiPP children's milk powder contains the following important nutrients:

    Calcium and Vitamin D

Calcium is a mineral that's intricately involved in the formation of healthy bones and teeth. Calcium is particularly important during infancy and toddlerhood when our bones undergo extensive growth.

To be able to sufficiently absorb calcium, we also need the helping hand of vitamin D. According to the Centers for Disease Control, toddlers between 12 to 24 months old need 600 IU of vitamin D daily.

Although our bodies naturally produce vitamin D when we're exposed to sunlight, in winter months, it can become more difficult to obtain, especially because few foods have naturally high vitamin D levels. This makes fortified milk and dairy products like HiPP toddler formula a great option for boosting your child's vitamin D levels.

In fact, in 2013, Hower et al. conducted a study assessing how effective toddler formula is at combating reduced vitamin D levels in toddlers during the winter months and found that HiPP German Kindermilch Stage 2+ was effective in preventing vitamin D deficiency!

    Iron

Iron is a mineral that is important for supporting healthy blood circulation. For toddlers who are no longer drinking iron-fortified infant formula or who may not be consuming enough iron-rich foods, HiPP Dutch Stage 4 or Stage 2+ can help make up the difference.

    Omega-3 (DHA) and Omega-6 (AA)

These polyunsaturated fatty acids are a critical contributor to your baby's cognitive development and visual acuity, but our bodies are unable to produce certain forms of these nutrients ourselves, meaning we must get them from our diet. To ensure your toddler receives the necessary fatty acids, HiPP Dutch Stage 4 and HiPP Stage 2+ are enriched with DHA from fish oil and α linolenic acid (AA).

    Folic Acid

Folic acid is part of the family of B vitamins and is involved in DNA production and the healthy growth of cells, which are naturally important processes during early childhood; thus, this vitamin is included in HiPP Dutch Stage 4 and HiPP Stage 2+. Plus, to ensure your little one sufficiently absorbs this important vitamin, HiPP children's milk also includes Metafolin, a more bioavailable form of folic acid that has improved levels of absorption!

    Prebiotics & Probiotics

HiPP formulas use galactooligosaccharides (GOS), which are prebiotics derived from lactose. Prebiotics are a type of non-digestible fiber that our healthy gut bacteria use as a source of energy. In toddler formula HiPP Stage 4 and 2+, you'll also find probiotics.

Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that live in our digestive tract. Underscoring HiPP's dedication to sourcing natural ingredients, HiPP's probiotics are obtained from natural lactic acid cultures initially extracted from real breast milk, maintaining closeness to nature.

The combination of prebiotics and probiotics in toddler and baby formula aids in the development of a healthy immune system and gut microbiome.

    Reduced Protein Composition

Proteins are important building blocks in our bodies that fulfill a variety of functions like tissue and enzyme formation, so they are a necessary part of our diet. However, it has been found that excessive protein intake during infancy and toddlerhood can have negative health consequences.

Additionally, cow's milk generally contains relatively elevated levels of protein. To compensate for this fact, HiPP Dutch Stage 4 and 2+ contain reduced protein levels and have no added whey protein from organic milk.

HiPP Dutch Stage 4 VS HiPP German Kindermilch 2+

As far as what age these children's milk are suitable for, both formulas are tailored for toddlers age 24+ months.

In terms of ingredients, skimmed milk forms the base, which is enriched with vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals like magnesium sulfate, fatty acids, natural lactic acid bacteria (probiotics) and galactooligosaccharides (prebiotics) from lactose.

In regards to nutritional values, HiPP Dutch Stage 4 contains 1.4 g of saturated fatty acids per 100ml of formula, whereas HiPP German Stage 2+ contains a slightly lower value of 1.2 g per 100ml. Other than that, the formulation is the same.

Ultimately, the most noteworthy difference between these formulas is that HiPP Dutch Stage 4 is packaged in 800g tin cans, and HiPP German comes in 600g cardboard boxes. For parents who appreciate greater durability of baby formula containers, HiPP Dutch Stage 4 may be preferred.
