  • HiPP Stage 2: Perfectly Customized for Your Growing Baby's Needs!

As your baby begins their weaning journey, the bulk of their calories will still come from formula or breast milk. You can think of follow-on formula as the base of your baby's diet, which now offers room for exploring exciting new flavours and textures from solid foods.

With over a decade of expertise under their belt, this premium brand takes pride in offering products adapted to the changing nutritional requirements of babies to ensure optimal growth and development. Since human milk naturally changes in composition over time, it makes sense that formula should evolve as well!

To help ease your little one into eating complementary foods, Stage 2 formula contains precisely tailored amounts of vitamins and minerals identified as key components of a mixed diet while still offering similar energy levels to HiPP formula Stage 1 to avoid the risk of overfeeding.

To accommodate your baby's needs from 6 months of age, HiPP baby formula Stage 2 adjusts its recipe in the following ways:

Protein Blend: A Harmonious Mix of Casein and Whey

The balance of proteins in human milk changes throughout the course of lactation. To imitate this process, the ratio of whey to casein in infant and follow-on formula varies. Infant formula is whey-dominant, with a ratio of approximately 60% whey to 40% casein. In contrast, HiPP Stage 2 follow-on formula is mostly casein proteins, with a ratio of 40% whey to 60% casein, which is reflective of mature breast milk and promotes improved satiation compared to earlier stages.

Adapted Vitamins and Minerals for Older Babies

Around the 6th month mark, babies begin to require higher levels of specific vitamins and minerals.

To improve your baby's nutrient intake as their natural iron stores begin to deplete, HiPP formula Stage 2 includes twice as much iron as Stage 1/PRE. This increased iron supports the development of healthy red blood cells, brain function, and the immune system.

Additionally, follow-on formulas provide approximately 40% more calcium than HiPP infant formulas, which helps build strong bones and teeth. The slightly elevated levels of vitamin D at this stage also aid in better calcium absorption.

    Complementary Carbohydrates to Improve Satiety

Lactose is the primary carbohydrate and main source of energy in all HiPP formulas, similar to breast milk. However, some Stage 2 formulas also include a small amount of starch. This addition serves two purposes: it improves the milk consistency by making the formula thicker, and it helps babies feel fuller for longer. While formulas with starch can be beneficial for babies who experience spitting up or those with larger appetites, starch-free formulations are better suited to infants with more sensitive tummies. Lactose-only options include their German Stage 2 No-Starch formula, along with all Dutch and UK versions of HiPP organic formula.

HiPP's Wide Range: Ideal for Every Growing Baby's Nutritional Needs

We carry an extensive range of formulas suited to a variety of feeding needs. Here, we'll break down the different country versions and milk types of HiPP Stage 2 organic formula, and offer a close look at the features of their GMO-free specialty formulas.

HiPP Stage 2 Formula Differences: Dutch, German, and UK

The brand offers three main organic formula lines, including HiPP German, HiPP Dutch, and HiPP UK. These lines cater to varying international regulations and preferences regarding baby formula ingredients. Except for their special formulas, all products are certified organic by the European Union and carry the brand's own Organic Seal. Additionally, all formulas, regardless of the country-specific version, are manufactured in Germany and packaged in their respective countries. Below, we discuss the differences between the powdered formulas from each line.

    • HiPP UK Stage 2 is a cow's milk formula featuring lactose as the sole carbohydrate. It's enriched with prebiotics but omits probiotics. All labelling and instructions on the package are conveniently written in English.

    • HiPP Dutch Stage 2 is a starch-free cow's milk formula that contains a combination of prebiotics and probiotics. This milk powder is contained in large, durable, and easy-to-scoop from cans.

    • HiPP German Stage 2 is available in two separate versions: HiPP Stage 2 Combiotic formula, which includes starch, and HiPP No Starch Stage 2, which is exclusively lactose-based. Both versions offer a synbiotic blend of pre- and probiotics.

    HiPP Goat Milk Formula

If cow's milk isn't your baby's preference, the brand's goat milk formula offers a gentle alternative for sensitive stomachs. Goat milk is often easier to digest because it contains A2 proteins, which are more easily and efficiently processed by babies compared to the A1 proteins typically found in cow's milk.

HiPP Goat Formula is made with a base of organic skimmed goat milk fortified with prebiotic galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) to promote gut health and support the immune system. The formula consists solely of lactose-based carbohydrates, ensuring a delicate composition. HiPP Goat Stage 2 is the last stage in this formula line, which was rated Germany's number one goat formula!

    HiPP Ready-to-Feed Formula

For late nights, on the go, or when you're short on time, ready-to-feed formulas offer unmatched convenience. These bottles of premixed liquid formula require no preparation, allowing you to feed your little one quickly and easily without the mess of powdered milk.

HiPP ready-to-feed Stage 2 belongs to the Bio Combiotic German formula range. While the recipes for the powder and liquid versions are similar, there are a few important differences to take into account.

First, the ready-to-feed formula lacks the probiotics found in the powdered milk. This is because live bacteria cannot survive the heat treatment that liquid formula undergoes. Additionally, this liquid formula includes milk cream, which allows for a palm oil-free recipe. Finally, all carbohydrates in HiPP ready-to-feed are derived from lactose, with no added starch.

    Special Formulas From HiPP

HiPP specialty formulas are for little ones with unique dietary needs and certain health conditions. This includes Hypoallergenic (HA), Comfort, and Anti-Reflux milks, which are also offered in different country versions. These formulas are not organic, but they are free of genetically modified ingredients and are made according to the brand's strict quality and purity standards.

Please note that special formula should only be used with the guidance of your pediatrician. Keep reading to learn more about each of these products.

    HiPP HA Formula Stage 2

This hypoallergenic formula features a base of extensively hydrolyzed whey proteins, combined with prebiotics and probiotics. These gentle ingredients effectively reduce the risk of allergic reactions in babies who have cow's milk protein sensitivities or a family history of allergies. While HiPP HA formula works well for some infants with cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA), it's not suitable for all cases, so be sure to consult your baby's doctor first.

The formula is offered in a Dutch and German version with virtually identical recipes. The main difference between the two comes down to packaging. HiPP HA Stage 2 German is available in a 600g box with German labeling, whereas HiPP HA Dutch Stage 2 is packaged in a more durable, larger 800g metal can with Dutch and French labels.

    HiPP Comfort

HiPP Comfort is designed to help manage lactose-related 3-month colic, flatulence, and constipation. It supports easier digestion and reduces crying through a formulation of gentle, extensively hydrolyzed whey proteins, reduced lactose partially replaced by maltodextrin and starch, a premium beta-palmitate fat blend, and tummy-friendly prebiotics. It's available in German and UK versions, with the former offering probiotics as an additional ingredient.

This Comfort milk is designed for all stages, meaning it can serve as the sole source of nutrition from 0 to 6 months and can be fed alongside a mixed diet from 6 to 12 months. The formula is unsuitable for infants with CMPA or lactose intolerance.

    HiPP Anti-Reflux

HiPP Anti-Reflux helps manage excessive regurgitation and burping, which are common tummy troubles for newborns. This thickened milk uses locust bean gum to increase the viscosity and help keep milk in your little one's tummy. As an added benefit, this ingredient also has prebiotic effects supporting overall digestive health.

It comes in a single stage intended for feeding throughout the first year. From birth to 6 months, it can be your baby's sole source of nourishment, or it can be included in their weaning diet from 6 to 12 months. The formula is available in a German and UK version that offer very similar recipes. The key difference is that the UK version holds more grams of milk powder per container and has the advantage of being labeled in English rather than German.
