  • HiPP Stage 1 Features - Advanced Protective Complex Inspired by the Natural Composition of Breast Milk

HiPP formulas have been tried, tested, and continuously improved for over a century, with years of innovation and knowledge poured into every product. Their milk is formulated to reflect the latest advancements in breast milk science, giving babies next-generation nutrition.

In fact, the brand has their very own Research Group on Human Milk whose insights have directly influenced the composition of their formulas. For instance, several studies have identified a link between the breast milk microbiome and infant gastrointestinal health. In lieu of this association, many recipes of HiPP newborn formula contain a combination of prebiotics and/or probiotics, which help mimic the bioactive components in human milk.

All HiPP formula stage 1 products have slight recipe variations, but you can be confident that each one is made with thoughtfully selected ingredients, delivering essential nutrients that are easily tolerated by tiny tummies.

Here are some of the key ingredients in their formula used to reflect the nutritional profile of human milk:

    • Probiotics - Most HiPP formula is enriched with probiotic Lactobacillus L. fermentum cultures, which are naturally found in and originally extracted from breast milk. These beneficial bacteria support the development of healthy intestinal microflora in infants.

    • Prebiotics - Human milk contains oligosaccharide prebiotics. By serving as a source of food for probiotics, they support gut and digestive health. Nearly all HiPP baby milk contains galacto-oligosaccharide (GOS) prebiotics sourced from lactose.

    • Essential Fatty Acids - Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA) are sources of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. They play a crucial role in vision and brain development, making them an essential component of all HiPP infant formulas. The brand uses a 1:1 ratio of both ingredients for optimal nutrition.

    • Lactose - Just like breast milk, lactose is the primary carbohydrate in all HiPP organic formula Stage 1, PRE, and special milks, providing your little one with the energy they need to grow and thrive. Lactose also aids calcium absorption, supporting bone growth, and has prebiotic effects that enhance gut health.

HiPP Stage 1 Formula For Little Tummies

The first year of life is a time of immense change and transformation for both you and your little one. As your baby grows and develops, their nutritional needs will also change. That’s why their formula is divided into distinct stages tailored to your child's stage of development.

Broadly speaking, European infant formula is suitable for feeding from birth. HiPP is unique in that they offer three kinds of infant formula, namely: Stage PRE, Stage 1, and their all-stage specialty formulas. Here are the differences between them:

    • HiPP PRE - The defining feature of a Stage PRE formula is that lactose is the sole carbohydrate source, meaning no additional carbohydrates are added. A PRE milk is free of starch and maltodextrin, making it particularly well-suited for sensitive tummies.

    • HiPP Stage 1 - Some Stage 1 formulas, such as HiPP German, include a small amount of starch as a complement to the main carbohydrate, lactose. This creates a creamier consistency and helps babies feel satiated for longer. That said, there are also some Stage 1 formulas, like the Dutch version, which remain exclusively lactose-based.

    • All-Stages - The brand offers a range of specialized formulas tailored to meet the unique dietary needs of little ones. Some of these formulas are suitable for feeding from birth to 12 months and are available in only a single stage, as is the case with HiPP Anti-Reflux and Comfort.

Importantly, all infant formulas are suitable as the sole source of nutrition from birth to 6 months, which differs from follow-on formulas, such as HiPP Stage 2, which are designed to be fed as part of a mixed diet from 6 months onwards.

HiPP's Comprehensive Range of Baby Formula Ensures an Ideal Fit for Your Infant's Nutritional Requirements

HiPP is well-known for their impressive variety of baby formula options. In this section, we explore the nuances between their different country versions, milk types, and special formulas.

HiPP Baby Formula Stage 1 Differences

HiPP Infant Formulas ComparisonCatering to country-specific preferences and regional nutrition regulations, they offer three unique formula lines to choose from: HiPP German, HiPP Dutch, and HiPP UK. Let’s explore the differences between the infant formulas within these ranges.

HiPP Bio Combiotik Formula Dutch, German, and UK

The following points outline the distinguishing features of their powered formulas.

HiPP Dutch Stage 1 is made in Germany, but it is packaged in the Netherlands. This organic Dutch formula features carbohydrates exclusively from lactose and is enriched with both pre- and probiotics. The formula is conveniently packed in large 800g cans with a leveling edge for easier preparation. The labelling on the can is available in French and Dutch.

HiPP German Stage PRE is both packaged and manufactured in Germany. All carbohydrates in this milk are derived from lactose, ensuring a gentle starch-free recipe. It’s also enhanced with a combination of pre- and probiotics. This organic milk is available in a 600g cardboard box labeled in German.

HiPP German Stage 1 is made and packaged in Germany. It utilizes lactose as its primary carbohydrate and incorporates a small amount of organic starch as a complementary source of energy. HiPP Combiotic Stage 1 is further enriched with prebiotics and probiotics. This formula is certified organic and available in 600g cardboard boxes with German labelling.

HiPP UK Stage 1 is made in Germany and packaged in the UK. This HiPP Stage 1 formula uses lactose as the sole source of carbohydrates and is enriched with prebiotics, but omits probiotics from the recipe. This certified organic formula is also conveniently labelled in English.

HiPP Goat Milk Formula Stage PRE

For parents seeking an alternative to cow's milk formula, HiPP goat milk formula offers a soothing option for sensitive tummies. The formula is manufactured and packaged in Germany and consists of A2 skimmed goat milk, prebiotics, and 100% lactose-based carbohydrates, ensuring a closer composition to breast milk. However, HiPP Goat Stage PRE is not suitable for cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) or lactose intolerance.

    HiPP Ready-to-Feed Formula

If you’re on-the-go, short-on-time, or want to simplify your night feeds, a HiPP ready-to-feed bottle can be a lifesaver! These premixed liquid formulas require no measuring, mixing, or mess. Simply shake, pour, and feed! All of the following formulas are made and packaged in Germany in convenient 200ml bottles.

HiPP Stage PRE Ready to Feed offers a very similar recipe to the powdered version of this formula, except that it includes milk cream, is made without palm oil, and has prebiotics but no probiotics.

HiPP Ready to Feed Stage 1 differs from the powdered version of this milk in that it is based entirely on lactose, meaning it has no added starch. Other notable contrasts are that it is palm-oil free, is made without probiotics, and features cream as the second ingredient.

HiPP HA Stage PRE Ready to Feed is a special formula, meaning it does not have organic certification, but it is, however, GMO-free. Compared to the powdered version, the main difference is that this formula is not fortified with probiotics, but it does still offer prebiotics.

    HiPP Special Formulas

They also offer a range of products specially formulated for babies who require additional dietary support. These formulas are typically used in circumstances where a standard cow's or goat's milk formula is not suitable. Specialty formulas should only be used after consultation with a doctor and under the guidance of your pediatrician.

While these special formulas lack organic certification due to their unique compositions, each of the following products is proudly made according to the brand’s strict quality and purity standards and is free from GMOs.

    HiPP Comfort

HiPP Comfort is designed to help manage lactose-related 3-month colic, flatulence, and constipation. This all-stage formula is suitable from birth to 12 months of age and is available in a German and UK recipe. Both versions offer relief through reduced levels of lactose partially replaced by maltodextrin and starch, extensively hydrolyzed whey proteins, a beta-palmitate fat blend, and prebiotics. The main difference between the two is that the German version also includes probiotic cultures.

    HiPP Anti-Reflux

As the name suggests, HiPP Anti-Reflux is intended to help manage reflux and excessive belching. The formula is available in a single stage that can be used from birth to 12 months, at which point most babies will have outgrown this issue thanks to the maturation of their digestive system. This specialty formula is available in both German and UK versions, which are thickened with locust bean gum to reduce regurgitation and vomiting. Neither recipe is fortified with pre- or probiotics, but the thickening agent contains fiber that offers prebiotic effects.

    HiPP Hypoallergenic Formula

HiPP HA is crafted for babies with a family history of allergies or sensitivities to cow’s milk proteins. While it works well for some babies with CMPA, it’s not suitable for all cases, so remember to consult your pediatrician before starting this formula. We offer three different versions of this infant formula: HiPP HA PRE German, HiPP HA Stage 1 German, and HiPP HA Stage 1 Dutch, which are suitable for feeding from birth.

All of these formulas feature a base of easily digestible, extensively hydrolyzed cow’s milk proteins that are low in allergens, all-lactose carbohydrates, and a combination of prebiotics and probiotics. The only exception to this is that the ready-to-feed version does not contain probiotics, as live bacteria cannot survive the heat treatment that the liquid formula is subject to.

    Why Choose HiPP Infant Formula?

For over a decade, HiPP infant formula has successfully established itself as one of the most sought-after options for supplementary feeding. Each milk is meticulously crafted with the utmost care and commitment to purity, sustainability, and reliability, making it an excellent choice for your baby's first formula.

Among the numerous reasons we love their formula, we place special emphasis on their extensive selection of certified organic options and non-GMO specialty milks. They also stand out with their innovative breastmilk-like recipes, which offer advanced ingredients such as prebiotics and probiotics.
